Educational Resources

The Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) offers two state-of-the-art, interactive 3D watershed models that are available for use by educators. These educational tools provide a hands-on, immersive learning experience, allowing students and community members to better understand watershed dynamics and the importance of water conservation. The models are available for rent, or alternatively, SWCD staff can visit your location to conduct an engaging, on-site presentation. Whether you prefer a self-guided use of the models or expert-led instruction, the SWCD is committed to supporting environmental education.

Watershed/Nonpoint Source Model

The EnviroScape Watershed/NPS education model provides a hands-on, interactive demonstration of the sources and effects of water pollution – and allows you to demonstrate ways to prevent it. Easily demonstrate how storm water runoff carries pollutants through the watershed to a pond, lake, river, bay, or ocean – and the best management practices to prevent this type of pollution from occurring. The overall watershed/stormwater concept is effectively communicated to all ages (children to adults)!

Ecological Restoration Model

The EnviroScape Ecological Restoration allows you to explore the functions of various wetland types.
      • Demonstrate how wetlands and floodplain management can improve the environment!
      • Experiment with restoring the environment to reduce the negative effects of unplanned development.
      • Demonstrate flooding on the floodplain.
      • Restore and construct wetlands to manage stormwater, reducing flooding and pollution.
      • Explore wetland types and their unique functions and values.
