Hague Nature Area
Hague Nature Area (HNA) is a 7.36-acre natural space in Auburn, Indiana, owned and managed by the DeKalb County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD). The property was established in April 1999 through a generous land donation from Ms. Terri Hague and a land purchase by the SWCD. The site was set aside to remain in its natural state, providing opportunities for environmental education, conservation, and community engagement.
Located adjacent to Cedar Creek, Eckhart Park, and Roselawn Cemetery, HNA features a scenic trail that winds through diverse landscapes, including upland forest and bottomland areas. Visitors can access the trail from the west through Eckhart Park or from the east via Center Street.
HNA is home to a variety of plant and wildlife species, thanks to its unique topography and soil composition. While no federally designated wetlands are present, seasonal moisture in the lower areas supports a rich ecosystem. The land is predominantly classified as Landes fine sandy loam and Boyer sandy loam, as identified by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Through thoughtful stewardship, the DeKalb County SWCD is committed to preserving HNA as a valuable natural resource for education, recreation, and habitat conservation.
